Well it looks like one of our first SXSW 2009 rumors has already proven true, legendary music producer Quincy Jones has confirmed as next years SXSW keynote. We are still hearing that the re-united Faces are planning on doing a SXSW headlining showcase which will probably put them at Stubb's or the Austin Music Hall. Definitely will want to watch for the members, or the whole band, to do walk-ons all over town all week. Would be neat to see them do a surprise in-store at Waterloo.
Still strong on the Katy Perry appearance, she plays Houston on 3/20 and Dallas on 3/21 so that puts her in the neighborhood for a Wednesday or Thursday SXSW gig, probably at Stubb's or the Austin Music Hall, maybe La Zona Rosa. Look for Alphabeat to be here as well as they are supporting Katy on her current tour.
Friday will probably see some or all of the bands on the "Taste of Chaos" tour making SXSW stops. Those bands include the Cancer Bats, Bring Me The Horizon, Four Year Strong, Pierce The Veil, and Thursday. That seems like a good Emo's main room or La Zona Rosa lineup for a Friday night, but they may split them up and put them in different venues. That tour has a stop in Houston on Saturday, and San Antonio on Sunday.
Other bands rumored to appear at next years SXSW include Bloc Party, Santogold, The Ting Tings, Crystal Castles, Tiesto, Carl Cox, Roni Size / Reprazent, Busy P and The Presets.
I will be starting our annual SXSW band list which will contain both confirmed and rumored bands, as soon as I get my first confirmed band. Keep sending in those tips!
And to the guy that sent me that Britney Spears rumor, her only open nights are Thursday between her gigs in Toronto and Montreal, or Saturday before her gig in Washington D.C. Considering the logistics involved it is highly unlikely that she will make such a big detour. It's possible, but unlikely. Besides, SXSW is already a zoo, and it's unlikely she is brave enough to do a show in front of so many music journalists. It would be the biggest "event" at SXSW, but I wouldn't bet on it happening.
